Fall fun is brewing in the Stevens Point Area, and what better way to celebrate than with a race, a crisp fall day, and cold beer! This year's River Run, which starts and ends at Central Waters in Amherst, is open to the first 1,500 participants. Join in on the fun by registering today, and read ahead for the top four things to know before you go.
Pick your distance
There are two options to participate, the five-mile timed run and the two-mile non-competitive walk. Kids ages 5-10 can also join in the fun with the 1k Falcon Run! Unique awards are given to overall male and female winners and the top three male and female finishers in each age group for the five-mile run.
Support a cause
All proceeds of the River Run will benefit the Jensen Community Center, other participating youth groups, and several area school clubs. Of course, the extra perks of registration include a long-sleeved t-shirt, one draft beer, a commemorative beer, and a ticket to buy a bottle of Central Waters 2019 Black Gold.
Stay for the beer fest
Central Waters hosts the Great Amherst Beer Festival from noon until 4:00 PM, which is for spectators and participants. The festival is the perfect way to wind down after the race and is open to the public with no ticket required, and includes beer, food, and live music. With the River Run comes another fall favorite- Central Waters Black Gold. This imperial stout is aged for three years in bourbon barrels, and is so sought-after that there are tickets just to buy the beer! Be aware- tickets for just the beer are sold out, but registering for the River Run guarantees a bottle!
Say cheese and cheers
The River Run and Great Amherst Beer Festival take place in the peak of fall foliage, making it the perfect backdrop for a photo. The five-mile course for the run also crosses over the Tomorrow River twice, giving you a beautiful scene to enjoy as you run, if you stop for a snap.
